![]() It’s Time to Get InvolvedAs I have reported to the membership in previous messages in the Recorder, at General Membership meetings, Regional meetings and at many job locations, “Organized Labor is under attack!” It is obvious to me that these attacks are escalating to a dangerous level. As your Business Manager, I take great pride in Local 30’s accomplishments over the past 112 years and most recently the undertakings that have taken place in the past three years. Together, we have navigated through probably the toughest times in recent history and we have not only prevailed, but we have grown and prospered. Local 30 is currently at: I sincerely wish all of organized labor could mirror Local 30’s accomplishments during the past several years. Unfortunately, Local 30 is the exception and not the standard in today’s day and age. As a true trade unionist, this distresses me to no end. Greedy employers and their puppet politicians are on a never-ending mission to eliminate the middle class and disregard the toils of hard working men and women who provide their families with the basic staples of the American way. A continuance of these actions is “an absolute race to the bottom.” As Local 30 members have done for the past 112 years, through two World Wars, a Great Depression and numerous recessions, we will band together as one and take on all enemies of organized labor! We must have our collective voices heard at the ballot box, in the press and in the streets if we have to. In Local 30, there have always been differences of opinion which have been handled in an open and democratic forum where all voices are heard. Despite these differences, Local 30 members have always managed to band together and come out stronger in the end. In my opinion, that is what makes Local 30 one of the best Labor Unions in the country. As we have done for the past 112 years, all challenges and difficulties will be faced together as a unified body and Local 30 will remain victorious. I implore you to get involved. Take the time to write to your legislators, talk to your neighbors, and spread the word that you are union. You are the men and women who make up Local 30 and you are not going to let anyone interfere with the hard fought for wages and benefits for you and your family. Together, we will get the job done. |
